Have you ever watched a rooster with his hens? Really watched one...how he is, how he responds to their cackles, how he responds to their unwillingness to join him in his duties... I've had chickens almost a year now. One chilly, fall morning I was watchin' my brassy rooster Copper Top in the yard with his girls. His actions got me thinkin'- what do readers really like when it comes to sex in a story? Graphic and dirty, sweet and untold, hard and fast, or just enough that the reader is able to both feel the moment and taste it?
I had a country, good girl raising. I was taught to not use specific language, and that sex or 'monkeyin' around', was not a light subject. Yet growing up under five siblings, hearing about sex came early, in part due to my older sister's romance novels. I remember the first sex scene I ever read. Yes, that is no exaggeration. The word 'buttocks' was a repeat stand out as to "breasts, hips, tongue", and wait for it... "full manhood" (not kidding)! These were the words my adolescent mind found so comical and yet so mind tingling at the same time.
When I sat down to write my first adult book, I was crazy excited. I wanted to make the reader feel the sex, not just watch it with their eyes, and I wanted to write it in a beautiful way that still left the mind both satisfied and wanting more. "Sandcastle Soldier" is my first hoorah, my first tango, my first time writing a bit of erotic prose. Soon, the readers will be tasting a bit of me with that book...and though I cannot promise you won't be hooked, I can promise that this story behaves a lot like my rooster Copper Top. It's a story that will hold you by your head, pin you down till' it's over, and satisfy the need you never knew you had. If you happen to lose any feathers during this ride, then my job was done well. Release day is coming, till' then happy reads! <3, Elle Moon
